The Evening Primrose plant is a native of North America, although it is also found in Europe and the southern hemisphere. Its yellow flowers bloom in the evening and are pollinated by night-flying insects. The oil is extracted from the seeds of the Evening Primrose plant and put into capsules.
One of the common names for the Evening Primrose plant was "Kings Cure-all", reflecting the wide range of healing powers ascribed to this plant. The native American Indians used the roots as a cough syrup, and infusions prepared from the whole plant were considered to be effective in healing gastro-intestinal disorders, to ease bruises, speed wound healing and as a sedative pain-killer.
